Industrial Park Lausitz: Students Honored

BASF InfraService & Solutions Lausitz GmbH, the site operating company of the Lausitz Industrial Park, has awarded its 2026 Sponsorship Prizes to three students from Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden) for their outstanding academic theses. The award ceremony was held on June 25 at the BASF site in Schwarzheide, marking the first time the event took place at the company’s location.

Each of the three award-winning theses received prize money of €1,000.

The Sponsorship Prizes recognize academic work that focuses particularly on the topics of sustainability, circular economy, and digitalization.

„The award-winning theses impressively demonstrate how young researchers contribute to solving current challenges through innovative ideas and sound scientific research. In doing so, we recognize outstanding academic achievements while supporting young people on their career paths,” said Christine Meitzner, Head of Smart Solutions at BASF InfraService & Solutions Lausitz GmbH and Chair of the Award Committee, in her laudatory speech.

The award also aims to increase the visibility of applied research and further strengthen collaboration between academia and industry. The close integration of universities and industrial practice makes an important contribution to transferring research results more quickly into practical applications and solutions.

Award Recipients

• Dipl.-Ing. Christopher Stäglich from the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering was honored for his diploma thesis “Simulation-Based Optimization of Agitators in Batch Reactors.”
• Dipl.-Ing. Long Lei from the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering received the Sponsorship Prize for his diploma thesis “Improving Atomic Layer Deposition Process of Silicon Oxide (SiO₂) and Aluminum Oxide (Al₂O₃).”
• Sebastian Dengel from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List” was recognized for his master’s thesis “Identification of Trip Patterns in e-Scooter Origin-Destination Data Using Cluster Analysis.”

Since 2020, the BASF Sponsorship Prize has honored outstanding research papers, final theses, and doctoral dissertations. The focus is on work with particular relevance to sustainability, circular economy, and digitalization. The evaluation and selection of award recipients are carried out by an award committee consisting of representatives of BASF InfraService & Solutions Lausitz GmbH and faculty members from the participating departments of Dresden University of Technology. The sponsorship awards are funded by BASF InfraService & Solutions Lausitz GmbH.
