POWERING THE FUTURE

By 2026, the electricity grid of the Industrial Park Lausitz will be extensively expanded and modernized. This will secure our long‑term energy supply and create ideal conditions for new investments. At the same time, we will be able to respond much more flexibly to our customers`needs and directly connect renewable energy sources on a megawatt scale.

Project Description

  • We are preparing your future at the Industrial Park Lausitz with concentrated energy. By 2026, the site-owned electricity grid will be modernized and expanded. This expansion will not only strengthen service security, but also create new capacities for further growth and future investments. Our modern grid will enable significantly more flexible load distribution and the direct integration of renewable energy on a megawatt scale.

  • The project includes a new 110 kV switchgear installation as well as a new 20 kV main switchgear. After bringing it into service, the new device will be one of the most powerful and largest switchgear installations of its kind in the southern region of Brandenburg.

Facts and Figures

The grid expansion is the largest infrastructure project BASF has undertaken at the Schwarzheide site.

  • As part of the project, an area of nearly 18 hectares will be fully developed.
  • The new 110 kV switchgear installation will cover an area equivalent to approximately five football pitches.
  • In addition, new infrastructure facilities of more than one kilometer are being constructed to provide transport access as well as connections for communications engineering and industrial water.

Project Components

The 110 kV Switchgear

The facility is being constructed by our partner MITNETZ STROM. It is the interface between the national grid and the network of the Industrial Park Lausitz. The facility enables us to exchange energy between the two systems. The switchgear is designed as a triple busbar installation with a total length of 300 meters. Thanks to its modular block structure, the current flow can be controlled flexibly, ensuring a reliable and failure-free power supply.

The 20 kV Main Switchgear

The project also includes the construction of a new, additional 20 kV main switchgear. From here, electricity is further distributed throughout the site network. Its positioning allows future expansions and facilitates the connection of new industries and investments to the high‑performance energy infrastructure of our site.

Partners

For the expansion of the power grid, BASF InfraService & Solutions Lausitz GmbH is co-operation with MITNETZ STROM as the main contractor for the 110 kV high-voltage technology.

Learn more about MITNETZ: your reliable distribution system operator

MITNETZ STROM

Mitteldeutsche Netzgesellschaft Strom mbH (MITNETZ STROM) is a wholly owned subsidiary of envia Mitteldeutsche Energie AG (enviaM). As the largest regional distribution system operator in eastern Germany, MITNETZ STROM is responsible for the planning, operation, and marketing of the enviaM electricity network. The power distribution grid operated by MITNETZ STROM has a total length of  more than 71,000 kilometers and extends across parts of the German federal states of Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony‑Anhalt, and Thuringia.

As a regional distribution network operator, it is particularly important to us to support the companies in our region. The implementation and integration of an infrastructure project of this scale is also a special and challenging task for our project team, which we have approached with great commitment. Together, we are developing innovative solutions for grids and facilities to shape the energy network of the future at the Schwarzheide site.
